The West Bengal Orthopaedic Association (WBOA) was founded at Kolkata (India) in July 1978. Prof Dr M.L. Chatterjee was the founder president. The society has been registered vide registration no. No. S/22670 of 1978-1979. The office of society is owned by WBOA and is situated in 102/3A, Dr. Suresh Chandra Banerjee Road, Beliaghata Main Road, 1st Floor, Kolkata - 700010, West Bengal, India.
Over the period of time, WBOA has become a large professional organization, having more than 800 active members. It is a vibrant organization which aim to promote and develop the practice of orthopaedics in the state of West Bengal (India) as per International and National Standards through academics, research and social networking.
In the recent time, with increasing meets of members of ever increasing subspecialities, WBOA is aiming to rise to one of the exemplary land mark in the history of mankind and to reach a glorious destination in the annals of Indian Orthopaedics in respect of academic activities (through CMEs, Conferences, Workshops, Fellowships, Financial grants etc.), mending and monitoring the decline glory, solace and service to the suffering humanity.
The association is involved with academic publication of quarterly News Letter and Semi-annual Journal. The International Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery is an official journal of West Bengal Orthopaedic Association (WBOA).

International Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery, a publication of West Bengal Orthopaedic Association, is a peer-reviewed print + online Semiannual journal.The journal’s full text is available online at http://www.ijos.in. The journal allows free access (Open Access) to its contents and permits authors to self-archive final accepted version of the articles on any OAI-compliant institutional / subject-based repository.

Digital Archiving Wolters Kluwer Medknow provides for long-term digital preservation through two primary partnerships, Portico and CLOCKSS. Portico is a leading digital preservation service worldwide. The content is preserved as an archival version and is not publically accessible via Portico, but is provided when required under specific conditions, such as discontinuation of the collection or catastrophic failure of the website. CLOCKSS will enable any library to maintain their own archive of content from Wolters Kluwer Medknow and other publishers, with minimal technical effort and using cheaply available hardware. Ahead of Print policy Articles published online under the Ahead of Print model are considered published and can be cited and quoted using the DOI as the reference source. Wolters Kluwer Medknow has a policy that changes will not be made after publication of an article without following accepted procedures for making corrections to the scientific record. Advertisements While advertisements are crucial to this journal to be able to keep all content free for everyone, ethical considerations are in place to ensure the integrity of the journal and its content: - "Pop-up" and "banner" ads appear on a random, rotating basis. The advertiser has no control or input over the pages where their ads appear.
- The Editorial Board has full and final approval over the content of all advertisements.
- Advertisers will never be shown any manuscripts or other content prior to publication.
The "International Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery" is the official journal of the West Bengal Orthopedic Association. It is a peer reviewed, semi-annual journal, available in both open access and printable versions.
The journal is covering the technical and clinical studies related to health, ethical and social issues in the field of Orthopedic diseases, traumatology, orthopaedic rehabilitation and other allied subjects of Orthopaedics. The area of research in orthopaedics and applied mechanics related to orthopaedic implant and instruments and its orthopaedic implications are also under the scope of this journal. Apart from two issues in a year, there is scope of special issues to fulfil the commitment of promoting sub specialities in orthopaedics like basic orthopaedics, traumatology, spine, paediatric orthopaedics, arthroscopy, arthroplasty, orthopaedic rheumatology, orthopaedic rehabilitation, orthopaedic infections, orthopaedic oncology, sports injury etc.
The journal welcomes scientific materials in the form of original research, surgical technique, case reports, letters to editor and review articles from India and abroad. In addition to that, there will be invited articles (solicited by the editorial board) e.g. guest editorial, commentary, symposium, perspectives, profile, orthopaedic legacy, reflection etc.
The articles are accepted for exclusive publication in the journal and the copyright remains with the journal. The studies must comply in accordance with World Medical Association Declaration of Helsinki. Articles with clinical interest and implications will be given preference.
